Mass support for November strike

ELEVEN unions have delivered a resounding “Yes” for the 30th November general strike of public sector workers against the robbery of their pensions and many more are expected to join them when the ballots come in later this week.

Syria: Arab League takes dangerous step

THE ARAB League has voted to suspend Syria and impose sanctions against Damascus over its alleged failure to end a government crackdown on protesters. But the Syrian government maintains that the police and security forces are only combatting armed terror gangs and that the Baathist-led popular front government is firmly committed to reform and have a dialogue with all the democratic forces in the country.

For a strike, not a tea-break

PUBLIC sector unions last week scorned the suggestion from Cabinet Office Minister Francis Maude that workers could, on 30th November, take part in a token 15-minute “strike” to show their anger at the robbery of their pensions, without losing any pay — but they would have to call off their one-day national strike.

Reasons for remembrance

WE HAVE just passed through remembrance ceremonies on Friday and last Sunday. We should respect, remember and honour those who have died in wars. This is so that the terrible lessons of war are passed from one generation to another as a warning against war.
