The New Worker
The Weekly paper of the New Communist Party of Britain
Week commencing 1st June 2012
As some of you may have heard already, on Saturday 26th May 2012, Otto Cahn died peacefully in the Lansdowne Care Home, Claremont Road, Cricklewood NW2 1TU.
Otto Friedrich Cahn was born 5th March 1921 in Frankfurt. He was forced to leave Germany with the rise of Hitler, and together with his brother sailed for England in 1939, supported by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). He liked to recall his time as an agricultural worker in East Anglia.
With the outbreak of the war he was interned as an enemy alien and transported to a camp in Canada. During his time in Canada he was impressed by the work of the communists, and remained a life-long supporter of their cause. For many years, and into a high age, he would sell the Daily Worker and then the New Worker newspapers at London street-corners.
Otto lived alone, his family and his church was the Party. He lived frugally, and he was happy when he was able to support the cause he believed in. Otto was also a keen rambler and a mean scrabble player.
We will remember him.
Dr Michael Cahn
