NATO OUT OF MALI!

THOUSANDS of French troops are pouring into Mali to spearhead a new offensive against the Touareg rebels who control the north of country. Britain, America, Canada, Belgium, Germany, and Denmark have all pledged support for the French war and British and US transport planes are now ferrying French troops and supplies across the Mediterranean to the West African country.

London Fire Authority rejects cuts

THE LONDON Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA) last Monday voted to reject plans to close 12 fire stations, cut 18 fire engines and 520 jobs after a fierce debate. The plan was put forward by London Fire Commissioner Ron Dobson and the London Mayor, Boris Johnson, in a bid to cut the London fire service budget by £45 million.

NHS defence needs to give Hunt a smack in the mouth

HEALTH Secretary Jeremy Hunt has just discovered that conditions for patients in some hospitals are appalling, especially for the elderly. An independent inquiry led by Robert Francis QC has found cases of “shocking care”. Fortunately cases like the Mid Staffordshire NHS are not typical, they are very rare. But that is no thanks to Jeremy Hunt of his predecessor Andrew Lansley.
