A leading member of the Workers Party of Korea has been denounced for anti-Party and counter-revolutionary crimes. Jang Song Thaek, the vice-chair of the National Defence Commission, was arrested at an enlarged meeting of the Politburo in Pyongyang on Sunday. The meeting, chaired by leader Kim Jong Un, voted to remove him from all posts and expel him from the Party.
The meeting started by fully laying bare the anti-party, counter-revolutionary factional acts of Jang Song Thaek and their reactionary nature.
Jang was denounced as a double-dealer who abused his power and challenged the unitary leadership system. He had gravely hindered the role of the Cabinet by taking control of major economic development sectors, committed irregularities and corrupt acts said the resolution from the meeting. The resolution said: “Jang and his followers committed criminal acts baffling imagination and they did tremendous harm to our Party and revolution,”.
Jang was a double- dealer who pretended to uphold the party and leader while desperately working to form a faction within the party composed of flatterers and those weak in faith.Prompted by his politically-motivated ambition, Jang tried to build his power base by elevating those who had been punished for serious wrong-doing in the past into the ranks of departments of the Party and units under them.
It said Jang and his followers violated the WPK’s guiding principles and disobeyed orders issued by the supreme commander of the Korean People’s Army but the “the discovery and purge of the Jang group” had “made our Party and revolutionary ranks purer” .
By throwing the state financial management system into confusion and committing such acts of treachery like the selling off of precious resources at cheap prices, the Jang group made it impossible to carry out the behests of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il on developing the iron, fertiliser and vinalon industries.
Jang was ideologically sick, extremely idle and easy-going. Jang was affected by the capitalist way of living and led a dissolute, corrupt and depraved life. He was a womaniser who abused his power. He liked to be wined and dined in the private rooms of deluxe restaurants. He used drugs and squandered foreign currency at casinos while he was receiving medical treatment in a foreign country under the care of the Party.
The discovery and purge of the Jang group, a modern day faction of undesirable elements who had wormed their way into our Party ranks, has made our Party and revolutionary ranks purer and helped consolidate our single-minded unity remarkably and advanced more dynamically the revolutionary cause of Juche along the road of victory.
No force on earth can deter our Party, army and people from dynamically advancing toward a final victory, single-mindedly united around Kim Jong Un under the uplifted banner of great Kimilsungism- Kimjongilism.
“Our party will never pardon anyone challenging its leadership and infringing upon the interests of the state and people in violation of the principle of the revolution, regardless of his or her position and merits,” the Politburo resolved, calling on all the party members and the Korean People’s Army to be united under the leadership of Kim Jong Un for final victory.
