DAVID Cameron and the Con-Dem Coalition gambled when they came to power and decided to cut Treasury funding to the Environment Agency so that it could not carry out planned flood prevention work in Somerset, the Severn Valley, the Thames Valley and the Fenlands — and of course all around the coast.

THE SWISS people in a referendum last week very narrowly voted in favour of imposing quotas on immigration, including from European Union countries. While Switzerland is not an EU member, it is closely integrated with the union and is a member of Europe’s passport-free Schengen regime.

Building the Paper

Building the Paper The special appeal took off this week with £590 in the post specifically to help us make a dent in our long-standing debts. £300 came from two West Sussex supporters and £160 from a Welsh comrade. £50 was given by a veteran communist in Hampton. A Leeds “fellow-traveller” donated £20, a Greek student gave another £20, another £20 from a Slough comrade as well as £19.17 from a Colchester supporter in memory of Paul Du Pave, a “Stalinist and a friend”.
