Tell the truth on climate change!

CLIMATE CHANGE protesters disrupted transport throughout central London this week in street protests calling on the government to “tell the truth about climate change” and reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2025. Hundreds of activists have been arrested in the protests that began on Monday, organised by the Extinction Rebellion (XR) movement, aimed at shutting down the capital.

LAST WEEK members of the fire Brigades Union (FBU) voted overwhelmingly, 97 per cent to be precise, to reject a controversial management proposal that would have seen locally imposed expansion of a firefighter’s role. The union argued that the “non-exhaustive” list of proposed duties could have allowed local employers to expand a firefighter’s role at will and without boundaries.

Defend Julian Assange!

THE ARREST of Julian Assange at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London last week is another despicable crime of British imperialism. The founder of WikiLeaks was dragged out of the Ecuadorian Embassy in London by the police after Ecuador’s president, Lenin Moreno, revoked his political asylum. Assange had spent almost seven years in the building after being welcomed there by the previous president, Rafael Correa. Now he’s in Belmarsh charged with jumping bail and under a previously secret US indictment — a development which Assange predicted and stated as his reason for going into the embassy in the first place.
