PARLIAMENT has agreed to hold a snap general election on Thursday 12th December to break the deadlock over Brexit that has led to a further delay of Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union (EU).

Cleaners fight back

TRANSPORT union RMT is stepping up its campaign to secure justice for cleaners working on London Underground (LU). The cleaners are employed by private contractors ABM, the New York-based facilities manager that has a turnover of $6.4 billion from its 140,000 employees. The cleaners have been fighting for parity with directly employed LU workers on a number of fronts including pensions, sick pay and travel. RMT argues that ABM cleaners are being discriminated against when compared with their colleagues. In particular it deplores the inaction of the Labour Mayor of London on the issue.

Kick the Tories out!

THE December election gives Labour a golden opportunity to beat the Tories at their own game. If working people close ranks around Labour’s reformist platform the Tories can be defeated. But it will only happen if the Corbyn leadership stand firm on past pledges to restore free collective bargaining and trade union rights, and defend and expand the health service and educational provision.

Bye bye Baghdadi

No-one in their right mind is going to miss Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-proclaimed “Caliph” of ISIS who was killed by American commandos in Turkish-occupied Syria last weekend. We may never know whether the brutal ISIS leader was directly in the pay of the Americans or if he was an Israeli agent, as some have alleged in the Arab media. What is certain is that ISIS served the interests of US imperialism when it joined the imperialist drive for ‘regime-change’ in Syria.
