PRIME Minister David Cameron has definitely not grasped the new “kinder” way of doing politics announced by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn last week because he used his keynote speech at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester last Wednesday to describe Corbyn and his views as “security- threatening, terrorist-sympathising, Britain-hating”.

Cameron said: “But you only really need to know one thing: he thinks the death of Osama bin Laden was a ‘tragedy’,” — a deliberate lie because what Corbyn had actually said was that it was a tragedy that Bin Laden had not been brought to trial first — a lot of important information would have been made public but clearly his killers did not want that to happen.

And Cameron went on further to vilify Corbyn, whose honest and straightforward politics and whose huge working class following clearly has the Tories rattled.

Russian wings over Syria

RUSSIAN jets are pounding terrorist positions in northern Syria. Hundreds of terrorists have surrendered to the Syrian authorities in the south of the country in return for an amnesty while thousands of others are fleeing to Jordan and Turkey to escape the devastating Russian air raids. Meanwhile the Kurdish militia, which controls most of the autonomous area along the border with Turkey, have welcomed the raids and called on the Kremlin to provide their self-defence units with air-cover and arms drops.

The Russian navy is preparing to deliver armaments and artillery strikes against the rebels according to the force’s former commander and current Duma defence committee head amid reports that Chinese warships are heading to Syria with military advisers ready to help Syria in its war against terror.

Russian President Vladimir Putin says one of the key objectives of Moscow’s anti-terror airstrikes is to preserve Syria’s territorial integrity. “Russia’s air support for offensive operations of the Syrian army also pursues a main goal of maintaining territorial integrity of this country,” Putin told French President Francois Hollande in Paris during talks on the Ukrainian crisis last week.

Game changer in Syria

RUSSIA’S timely intervention in Syria in support of the Syrian government’s efforts to defeat the “Islamic State” (ISIS) and the other reactionary militias that have spread death and destruction throughout the country has won the support of the Arab street and all progressive humanity. People’s China supports the Russian role in Syria and the presence of Chinese warships off the Syrian coast is fuelling Arab speculation that Beijing may soon go beyond moral support to help a friend in need.

In a few days Russian air-raids, backed by missile attacks from the Russian navy, have crippled ISIS and the other terror gangs — something the Nato powers have failed to achieve in over a year of desultory bombing of ISIS positions in Syria and Iraq. No wonder the Syrian Kurds are now calling for Russian air support and arms supplies and that the Baghdad government is thinking of asking the Russians to extend their air campaign to target ISIS positions in Iraq.

A few weeks ago the imperialists were shedding crocodile tears over the destruction of Syria’s archaeological treasures by the Islamic fanatics and the flood of refugees fleeing to Europe to justify Nato’s own air campaign over Syria. But the US-led coalition’s aviation did nothing to dent the ability of the murderous militia of the “Islamic State” to launch offensive after offensive against Syrian government positions while the Turks used it as a pretext to bomb the Syrian Kurds, the very people the Nato jets were initially sent in to protect.

The real purpose of the Nato-led operations over Syria seems simply to prevent the Syrian Arab Airforce from attacking major rebel positions and to pave the way for the “no fly-zones” and “safe-havens” that the imperialists love to use as a pretence for open invasion and “regime change”.
