United States President Barack Obama is attending a nuclear summit in Seoul in the US occupied zone of Korea. And he used the opportunity to try to browbeat the new leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea over DPRK plans to launch a peaceful satellite.
Obama admitted that the US is the only country ever to have used nuclear weapons and that he wants a nuclear weapon-free world. Well he is very well placed to start the process of achieving that by setting an example and abolishing the US nuclear arsenal.
But he cannot expect countries like the DPRK, which are continually threatened with US imperialist intervention and all the bloodshed, destruction and misery that brings, not to defend themselves, including by developing nuclear weapons.
Trying to appease the imperialists by disarming certainly did not help the peoples of Iraq or Libya — it just invited the aggressors in.
If Obama though Kim Jong Un was young and vulnerable he made a mistake; the new DPRK leader is not just one individual, he is the representative and spokesperson of all the people of the DPRK and they are behind him.
