LABOUR leader Jeremy Corbyn last week described the collapse of the giant company Carillion as “a watershed moment.” He said: “Across the public sector the ‘outsource first’ dogma has wreaked havoc. Often it is the same companies that have gone from service to service creaming off profits and failing to deliver the quality of service our people deserve.

Hardship ahead for low income households

LOW INCOME households in Britain will face increased hardship through 2018 as the cost of living continues to rise faster than the value of wages or benefits, according to a report issued on 11th January by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF).

Carillion tolls the bell for capitalism

THE DOWNFALL of the giant company Carillion brings back memories of the fall of the Lehman bank in 2008 and the beginning of the major banking collapse. We wonder what will be the full implications? What other companies are about to fall with it?

Carillion was one of both Tory and Labour governments’ private contractors for taking over public-sector work in many different fields — happily accepting taxpayers’ money, delivering a poor service, being a bad employer, but delivering vast wealth to its shareholders and even more to its directors.
